If you're on DogTok or DoggoGram, you'll probably notice a lot of politics around dog trainers, dog walkers, daycares etc.
There's an old saying. "The only thing two dog trainers agree on is that the third dog trainer is wrong".
It really is like that out there. and unfortunately it is for good reason.... There are some utter garbage dog trainers and dog walkers and dog daycares out there.
Here in New Zealand, the canine industry is largely unregulated. Everyone loves to bleat on about how unregulated it is in the comments on your local Facebook dog lovers group.
Fortunately for the consumer, a small group of us have banded together to form an association that aims to bring a minimum standard for people operating businesses that involve dogs. This association will provide dog owners with a bit of a "reference check" - if the trainer or walker you are going to use is a member, that's a pretty good sign that they adhere to a high standard of care when working with dogs.
It's early days yet, but i'm pretty proud so far of the work we have done, and are continuing to do. We've also had a great response from the industry itself with far more registrations than we would have expected initially.
While you can't necessarily join this organization as a casual dog owner, if you're interested, i'd love you to take a look and provide me any feedback you might see from the consumer perspective.
